This may be a somewhat flawed assumption on my part, but most supposed "Christian Nationalists" are literally just Christians who realize that nothing in our society is actually neutral.
They likely realize that someone's morality and worldview will be reflected through the laws that govern our public institutions, schools, government bodies, etc. and that there's a huge effort to destroy those foundations.
When you oppose it = Christian Nationalism and all sorts of "ist" and "ism" accusations. It's a sneaky attempt to basically push forward whatever worldview certain Foucualt, Derrida influenced activists advocate across all of society while hamstringing Christians and even "cultural Christians" point and say, "Wait a minute!"
An athiest who reviewed Tom Hollands book "Dominion: The Making of the Western Mind" really hammers home that people's politics and cultural worldviews are intrinsically informed by their morals.
