Why subscribe?

Liberalism—the political philosophy that valorizes autonomous liberty as the supreme good—has failed. The West’s reigning ideology can no longer curb destructive political conflict, provide moral guidance, or restrain unlimited government. As a result, America is unhealthy. Hyper-individualism makes us lonely. Sexual “liberation” destroys individuals and making it harder to form families. A commitment to “individual rights” blocks attempts to secure the common good.

I am a former professor with a Ph.D. in political philosophy who currently works at a conservative think tank. My Substack blog is dedicated to articulating a “postliberal” vision of politics which is capable of fostering virtuous self-government in a flourishing community. I write from a Christian perspective, seeking to synthesize ancient philosophies with modern insights. My goal is to preserve liberalism’s positive innovations while showing how pre-liberal thought should inform modern conservatism. We cannot (and should not) go back to the past, but our commitment to liberalism is killing us. The only way back is forward.

(Please note that I do have other interests, such as history and theology, and that, since this is my only blog, I will occasionally post blogs on topics unrelated to political philosophy or liberalism.)
